Romans 10: Your Circumcision Merit Badge! And the reasons you do Not kill Gibeonites
Pastor starts by amusing us with his latest injuries and mishaps. But the constant question here at Cliffside is, “Where are we now?” Well... you just had do ask, didn’t ya. We’re having to leave Romans. I know... we just got started in Romans, but we ran smack dab into circumcision... the most popular topic in the entire Bible. Okay, maybe not. Anyway, we have to leave Romans to learn about circumcision. So, we’ve crashed into this... as you will when you are a serious student of Scripture. If you just go read through the Book of Romans and you think you’ve got it, you ain’t got it. Every book of the Bible is like that. The main theme in Romans is Habakkuk 2:4, The just shall live by faith. Go back and listen to the first 9 lectures to get that. But now we have to work on our circumcision merit badge. It’s a huge key. It reveals who God is.
Last week we touched on Genesis 17:1-4, where Abraham learned about circumcision, and we learn how it ties into Adam and Eve and we expand on that. Now we go to Genesis 34, the Dinah incident. He has done this before, but now he’s going to add some things into it. First really big question is, what is a Hivite? Now we’re in Joshua 9. Now you go to 2 Samuel 21 to learn about the Gibeonites... they are the Hivites. From here we learn some very important reasons why you never, ever kill Gibeonites.
Okay... if you aren’t excited to hear more about this by now... okay, you’re normal. But don’t you want to earn your merit badge? By now you can tell, I have no idea how to get you to want to hear this lecture. It’s like hitting your hand with a hammer because it feels so good when you stop. But listen anyway. You’ll learn stuff.
Notice: This is a very in-depth and fascinating study of The Book of Romans by our pastor Stephen A. Chronister. You’re listening to Lecture Number 10 in this series.
